Sector Minister visits the Forestry Commission

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has called on the Forestry Commission to continue to partner the Ministry and oher allied bodies and institutions for the promulgation of Laws and regulations which promote management amd protect its integrity.
He said the forest resources in Ghana were a strategic asset which needed a sustained legislative backing to guarantee its sustainable management and utilisation.
The Minister made these observations when he interacted with the Executive Management Staff of the Forestry Commission during his maiden visit to the Commission to acquaint himself with progress and productivity of the Commission in Accra.
Accoding to Alhaji Fuseini, issues about sustainable forest resource management were so complex that it was essential that those who had the responsibility to enact laws of govern the management of that resource were adequately informed about the implications for passing such laws.
He expressed his readiness to partner the Forestry Commission to drive its corporate objectives, vis-a-vis the challenges confronting the achievement of sustainable forest management, adding " I will try to see and learn from the Forestry Commission what we could do at the legislative level, to enhance the capacity of the Commission to ensure sustainable national resource management".
In his response to the observations of the Minister, the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Mr Samuel Afari Dartey, recalled the close working relations between the Commission and the Ministry and explained that the legislature was the Commission's source of authority in the implementation of its mandate.
Mr Afari Dartey, on behalf of the management and staff of the Commission, congratulated Alhaji Fuseini on his appointment as the sector Minister.
