“PLANT TREES TO COMMEMORATE SPECIAL EVENTS” – FC CE URGES GHANAIANS

The Chief Executive of Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has admonished all Ghanaians to plant trees to commemorate special events in their lives. He said birthdays, anniversaries and other memorable occassions could be celebrated with tree planting so that as the years go by, the trees would become symbols of remembrance to the current and next generations.

The Chief Executive said the Forestry Commission is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to plant trees to combat climate change and its associated effects.

Mr. Owusu Afriyie said these when he joined Former President J.J Rawlings, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., Parks and Gardens Department, and other organisations and individuals to plant trees in the isles of the Tetteh Quarshie – Adenta Highway to mark the 40th Anniversary of the June 4th Uprising.

He also said tree planting cuts across all political divides and irrespective of one’s political affiliation, tree planting should be seen as a national exercise for the health and other benefits of the populace.  This advice followed right at the heels of planting a tree together with Mr. Koku Anyidoho, a dyed – in – the – wool member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Forestry Commission supported the exercise with seedlings and technical expertise. In all, a total area of 3.3 km was planted with species like Acacia, Militia, Tree of Life and Mimusops.
