SIR JOHN MOVES INTO OFFICE

The newly-appointed Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission (FC), Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, is set to start work fully on Monday.

Mr. Afriyie, popularly called 'Sir John,' replaced Mr. Samuel Afari Dartey, after President Nana Akufo-Addo, named him on March 13, 2017.

The first major assignment of the new Chief Executive will be the celebration of World Forest Day, which will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

As the boss of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Afriyie will supervise the creation, protection and management of the country's forest estate and protected areas in the various ecological zones.

He is to coordinate the conservation of Ghana's biophysical heritage, as well as supervise the preparation and implementation of integrated forest and wildlife management plans for the maintenance of the environment to the benefit of all segments of society.

Mr. Afriyie, who is a former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is also to regulate the harvesting of timber, wildlife and other non-timber forest products, among others.
