Background

The food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (hereinafter referred to as ‘’FAO’’) and Resource Management support centre (hereinafter referred to as the  ‘’service provider’’) (together hereinafter referred to as the ‘’parties’’) have agreed that the service provider will provide certain services defined in detailed in the attached Annex (the services’’) which forms an integral part of this Letter of Agreement (hereafter the ‘’Agreement’’) in support of the project entitled ‘’improving social Responsibility Agreements in support of a functional VPA’’. Objectives of Project

The main objective of this agreement is to improve the capacity of Forest Fringe Communities and Timber Firms towards effective negotiations and implementation of SRAs to enhance forest government in line with VPA FLEGT processes. Readmore

About Us

The concept of Social Responsibility Agreement [SRA] was introduced as part of the timber utilization contract [TUC] procedure to ensure that the entire forest fringe community [FFC], where a TUC holder operates, can directly benefit from the exploitation of timber resources both on and off forest reserve. Following the TUC procedure, contractors shall enter into a written agreement with the forest fringe communities in the TUC area, indicating their commitment to be socially responsible in their operations and to provide social infrastructure for the communities. Outputs of Project

Output 1: Experiences with SRA negotiation, signing and implementation inventoried, analysed and documented.

Output 2: Necessary institutional arrangements made for SRA facilitation and control established and tested.

Output 3: Main stakeholders informed, trained and prepared for SRA negotiations.

Output 4: Fifty (50) SRA negotiation processes effectively and successfully facilitated.
