The Forestry Commission, under the leadership of Acting Chief Executive Dr. Hugh C. A. Brown, has partnered with the ACP Estate Residents’ Association to plant 1,000 tree seedlings as part of the Government’s flagship Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative (T4L) 2025. The initiative aims to combat climate change and promote sustainable environmental stewardship across the country.
The tree-planting event was held at ACP Estate, a well-planned residential community located in Pokuase, within the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. Recognized for its scenic greenery and tree-themed street names, the Estate has long demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
Welcoming the Forestry Commission delegation on behalf of the Association’s Chairman, Treasurer Miss Sheila Naa Borkai Addy expressed the community’s appreciation for being selected as a partner in this national exercise. She highlighted the significance of trees in mitigating climate change, improving air quality, preventing soil erosion, and enhancing the aesthetic value of the environment. “Each tree we plant today represents an investment in our shared legacy and the well-being of future generations,” she remarked.
During an engagement with residents, Dr. Brown commended the Estate’s serene and verdant landscape, describing it as a model of thoughtful urban planning. He remarked, “I have never seen such a green and well-structured community,” and emphasised the importance of restoring degraded landscapes. He further encouraged residents to continue promoting eco-conscious living and supporting national efforts to create a greener Ghana.
Dr. Brown also noted that community-led initiatives such as this align seamlessly with the Forestry Commission’s mandate, facilitating smoother execution through increased local awareness and support.
In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Valerie Fumey-Nassah of the Forestry Commission announced plans to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), enabling continued collaboration on future greening projects within the ACP Estate community.
The event concluded with a ceremonial tree planting, involving Dr. Hugh Brown, Commission staff, and executives of the ACP Estate Residents’ Association, symbolising a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.
