The Forestry Commission (FC) of Ghana has received an 11-member delegation from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and National Forestry Authority (NFA) who are on a 5-day working visit to Ghana at the FC Boardroom.
The delegation, made up of 6 members from UWA and 5 from NFA, is in the country to interact and learn about the operations of the Kakum National Park canopy walkway in order to introduce a couple of canopy walkways in Uganda to diversify their tourism products and experiences.
The Deputy Chief Executive, Mr Iddrisu Musah, welcomed the delegation.
The Chief Executive of FC, Mr John Allotey, mentioned that the Commission intends to use the opportunity of the visit to share ideas and also learn about Uganda’s ecotourism strides as the East African country is ahead of Ghana in terms of that. He later gave an overview of the FC, its Divisions, Departments and its operations as well as the projects the Commission is into to the Uganda team.
The UWA Director of Conservation and Head of Delegation, Mr John Makombo, was grateful to FC for making space to receive them and pointed out that he believed their time in Ghana would be a rich learning experience. He later gave an overview of the National Forestry Authority of Uganda.
The Director of Plantation Development, NFA, Mr Stuart Maniraguha, on his part presented an overview of Uganda’s ecotourism, wildlife sectors and systems to the Commission.
The former Wildlife Regional Manager of the Western Region, Mr Enoch Amassah Ashie, giving a presentation on the Kakum Canopy Walkway experience, highlighted the historical, construction, safety and security and management of the walkway.
The gathering had the Commission’s Executive Directors, Directors, Managers and Wildlife Division Functional Heads in attendance. The Ugandan delegation as part of the working visit will embark on field tours to Kakum and other forest plantation outfits for practical experiences as well as receive briefings on other Wildlife Division’s Parks’ activities.
