The Forestry Commission Ladies Association (FCLA) in the Eastern Region has held a Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the premises of Forest Services Division (FSD), Koforidua Regional Office, under the auspices of the Regional Manager, Mr. Isaac Noble Eshun.

In attendance were the Deputy Regional Manager of Forest Services Division, Koforidua Regional Office, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu Nkwantabisa who also doubled as the Chairman for the occasion; the Assistant Human Resource Manager, Mr. Koranteng William; the Deputy Regional Manager of Wildlife Division (WD), Koforidua, Mr. Kingsley Osei Mensah and all members of the Association were present at the ‘pink arena’.

Gracing the occasion were the Branch Manager of Zenith Bank, Koforidua, Mr. Joseph Somia-Kwaw; selected staff from the Ghana Immigration Service, Koforidua and the National Sports Authority, Koforidua.

Resource Persons for the occasion were two (2) nurses from the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua. They took participants through the need to examine their breasts (both men and women), how to go about it and the signs to look out for when examining the breasts. One of the resource persons, Mrs. Gloria Akorfa Quarshie, educated participants on the possible causes of breast cancer and the preventive measures thereof.  

She stated emphatically that October has been set aside as Breast Cancer Awareness month because the disease is the most frequently diagnosed type of malignancy in women and early detection could save lives.

After presentations, time was allowed for interactions which was followed by a breast screening exercise. A lot of ladies from neighboring organizations as well as food vendors and market women trooped in to get their breasts screened. On the whole, it was one educative programme
