The Western Regional Office of the Forest Service Division (FSD) welcomed the newly appointed Deputy Chief Executive (CE) of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Elikem Kotoko, for a visit that energised staff and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to sustainable forest management in the Region.
The purpose of the visit according to the Acting (Ag.)Human Resource (HR) Director, Dr. Gordon Kofi Sarfo-Adu, was aimed at providing the Deputy CE with an immense understanding of the operations and activities of the FSD at regional level.
Mr. Baba Musa Iddrisu, the Deputy Regional Manager who stood in for the Regional Manager, Nana Poku Bosompem, warmly welcomed the Deputy CE and his entourage for the visit. Mr. Iddrisu provided a detailed overview of the Regional Office’s activities, highlighting the Division’s commitment to sustainable forest management, community engagement and the enforcement of forestry regulations.
Mr. Elikem Kotoko in his remarks emphasised the need for the Regional Office staff to be proactive and innovative, finding solutions to improve their work and contribute to the sustainable development of Ghana’s forest reserves. He also encouraged staff to utilise official emails for communication and to adopt environmentally-conscious practices, reflecting the FC’s commitment to responsible resource management.
The Deputy CE together with the Ag. HR Director engaged in discussion with the Regional Office staff, gaining valuable insights into the challenges they face, such as illegal logging, encroachment and limited resources. The discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration and innovation to enhance the effectiveness of the Regional Office operations.
The visit underscores the FC’s commitment to supporting the Regional offices of FSD and their vital role in implanting the FC’s mandate at the local level. The visit also emphasised the importance of effective communication and collaboration between the FC headquarters and Regional offices.
The Deputy CE’s visit to the Western Regional Office of FSD was a resounding success fostering a spirit of collaboration and demonstrating FC’s commitment to supporting its regional operations.
