The Chief Executive of Forestry Commission together with the Director of Operations in charge of Plantations, Mr. Hugh Brown and the Director of Audit, Mr. Elisha Asiedu-Amponsah have paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye to appreciate the church’s efforts during last year’s Green Ghana Day and inform him about this year’s Green Ghana project.
Mr. Allotey expressed his appreciation to the church for their contribution and support not just to Forestry Commission but to the entire nation.
“Looking at the performance, enthusiasm and support we got from the church, in planting 651,000 seedlings, it is only proper to meet and share this year’s plans with the church”, he said.
The Chaiman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye expressed his appreciation to the government and Forestry Commission for the vision to plant and replenish our forests and environment.
He said the Church is interested in what goes on in the country and that is why they decided to participate in the Greening Ghana Day last year.
“ We are thankful that you gave us the opportunity to transform society. This year we are happy to participate and plant more trees”, he added.
The Chief Executive proposed to the church to adopt a compartment in the forest reserves in connection to the Green Ghana Day. This year, ten million seedlings will be planted in compartments in the forest reserves, and corporate bodies are encouraged to adopt a compartment and fund its maintenance.
The Chairman welcomed the proposal and said it will be discussed with the leadership of the Church.
The Chairman asssured the Chief Executive that they will do their best to support, participate and achieve the target set for this year’s Green Ghana Day.
