The Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) of the Forestry Commission (FC) has organised a 2- day capacity building training for regional and selected district accountants within the Commission. The accountants from various divisions and units gathered at the Headoffice to hone their skills to improve work and efficiency in the Department. There was a round of introduction by participants to build a level of familiarity.
Mr. Kofi Boateng, Finance Manager for the Forest Services Division (FSD), in delivering the welcoming address, expressed his gratitude to all the accountants for honouring the invitation and travelling from far and near to be part of the training. He admonished participants to take advantage of the training to acquire the rightful skills for productivity.
Mr. Kwame Ofori Gyau, was the resource person for the training and He made an extensive presentation to hone the skill set of the participants. The presentation was divided into three sections. The first section focused on effective communication, barriers to effective communication how and managers should communicate. The second section touched on leadership and management. The topics discussed were effective leadership skills, key leadership traits, transactional and charismatic leadership and team leader skills. The last section was Staff Development and Change Management. Topics discussed include Staff Development; Types of Staff Development; Key Principles of Change Management and Tools for Managing Change. Mr Gyau concluded his representation by speaking on Grievance Handling, Principles Underpinning Grievance, Development Grievance Procedure, Misconduct, Disciplinary Action and Principles of Effective Dispute Resolution.
On the second day of the training program, regional accountants were given the opportunities to present their financial reports for 2024. Their presentations contained the regional revenues, expenses, challenges and 2025 outlooks.
Mr. Boateng, in his closing remarks, thanked participants for making the 2-day capacity building successful. He admonished participants to train their subordinates in the various districts and regions on the skill set acquired. He wished them travelling mercies to their various destinations.
The training ended with discussions on welfare issues.
