The Chief Executive (CE) of the Forestry Commission , Mr. John Allotey , and the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) in charge of the Wildlife Division,Mr. Musah Iddrisu , paid a visit to the Bomfobiri Wildlife Sanctuary , following a poaching activity in the Sanctuary which led to the shooting of a staff on his shoulder.
Mr. John Allotey admonished staff not to be discouraged as a result of the shooting incident but rather, it should motivate them to work harder as a team in order to bring such culprits to book. He mentioned that, staff will be equipped with modern field tactics and craft for protection should similar situations arise in the future.
Mr. Musah urged staff to continue to work hard and assured them of their safety.
In a related development and follow up, Mr. Iddrisu Musah, together with the Director, Stakeholder and Ecotourism , Dr. Richard Gyimah , visited staff of the Bomfobiri Wildlife Sanctuary and also used the opportunity to visit and check up on the staff who was shot by a notorious poacher in the latter part of last year.
They also donated an undisclosed amount of money to the affected staff for his upkeep.
Mr. Musah assured that, management of FC will ensure that the culprit faces the full rigors of the law. He added that, the culprit has been arrested, charged and granted bail by the court for further investigation pending prosecution.
The Bomfobiri Wildlife Sanctuary is located 50km from Kumasi. The area is an ideal terrain for hiking and camping. The Sanctuary houses the Bomfobiri and Temate Waterfalls as well as the Kagyaworasaw Hills and animal species , notably buffaloes and baboons.
