The Forestry Commission Board, chaired by the Omanhene of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, and the Executive Management Team (EMT), has played host to the 2023/2024 Premier League Champions, FC Samartex.
The Board Chairman, who expressed his admiration for the team, said the Club is based in Samreboi, which falls within his Traditional Area. He added that the trophy won by FC Samartex, has given him some bragging rights amongst his colleague chiefs such that they now refer to him as ‘Champion’. He hinted on the importance of not only focusing on football but also engaging in environmentally sustainable activities that impact the society at large.
The CE in his address, congratulated FC Samartex for winning the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League, and for making the timber industry proud. He stated that, he was proud of the achievements of the Team and urged everyone to support them in their endeavors. Mr. Allotey added that he was delighted at the fact that the Club has the same corporate colours as the Commission (green, black and white).
Mr. Richard Nsenkyire, the President of the Club, who is also the Chief Executive of Samartex Ltd, and a Member of the FC Board, said that the Club, popularly referred to as the “Timber Giants”, engages in a lot of environmentally sustainable activities and provides assistance to people in and around its environs. He added that the Football Club joined the Elite Premier League in 2022 and just in the second year of its entry, the team emerged as the 2023/2024 Champions of the Ghana Premier League.
He emphasised that the Club receives support from the Commission, and is ready to collaborate with them to help protect the environment. He said “history has been made” and called on all to be proud of the achievement of FC Samartex.
The Captain of the Club, Mr. Emmanuel Adu-Siaw, expressed his profound appreciation to the Commission for their constant backing. He gave a historic overview about the Team’s progress over the years, and expressed his enthusiasm about the growth and achievement of the Club.
The General Manager of FC Samartex, Mr. Edmund Ackah, stated that the Commission was the first to make a presentation to them, which served as an encouragement to work hard. He promised to return to the Commission with another Cup to make the Commission proud.
Mr. John Allotey, on behalf of the Board members, presented an undisclosed amount of cash to FC Samartex as way of congratulating them for their feat, and encouraging them to attain greater heights.
