The Forestry Commission Training Center (FCTC) has held its maiden health walk and talk to educate staff on the need to stay healthy through exercising.
The walk started from FCTC through Akyawkrom to Krapa.
After covering a distance of 10.7 km, they stopped at Anita Hotel to perform an aerobics session and then continued back to FCTC.
The Director for FCTC, Hon. Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, explained that, the health-walk is the first of many more of such to come because the Center plans to undertake the exercise every quarter.
He added that, the health and well being of staff of the Center is very essential in its growth and the general progress of FC.
Mr. Okrah elaborated that, the work staff at FCTC do is an expansive and tedious one and as such may not get the opportunity to exercise regularly. In view of this, management of the Center decided to undertake quarterly health walk and talk exercises to help staff exercise and also sensitize them on health related issues.
He advised staff to make it a point to exercise regularly and also urged them to participate fully in the activities lined up for the day.
After the walk, participants received a health talk on the dangers and preventive measures of diabetes and hypertension and also received a talk on how to keep fit and the need to do so.
A free health screening service was provided for participants.
Staff who participated in the event expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Management for coming up with such initiative . To them, it was a way of unwinding after working for many days. They promised to fully participate in subsequent events as it will contribute to their overall wellbeing.
