Forestry Commission, represented by the Chief Executive (CE), Mr. John Allotey; the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Nyadia Sulemana Nelson; the Executive Director of the Wildlife Division, Mr. Bernard Asamoah Boateng , has commiserated with the chiefs and people of Gonjaland at the Yagbon Wura’s Palace at Damongo in the Savannah Region..
This followed the departure into the land of the ancestors, of the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I, in the early part of February 2023.
Mr. Allotey and his team were welcomed by the Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee, Mankpang Wura Achode I, and Sonyor Wura Kanyiti I, the interim king of Gonja.
The Chief Executive informed the gathering at the Palace that his team was there on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, management and staff of the Commission to express their heartfelt condolences to the people of Gonjaland upon the death of the Overlord. He said FC has the largest national park, other parks and offices in the Savannah Region and through the support of the chiefs and people of Gonja, business has gone on smoothly over the years.
The Chief Executive mentioned that even though the funeral will be held over the weekend, he deemed it proper to visit the Palace before the day of the funeral because of the special ties the Commission has with Gonjaland.
Mr. Allotey and his team presented 50 bags of rice, two bottles of Schnapps and GHC50,000 as the Commission’s contribution towards the preparations for the funeral rites of the departed King. He also assured the chiefs that staff of FC will be available to help in diverse ways for a befitting burial and funeral for the late King.
Receiving the items, a representative of Mankpang Wura Achode I , expressed utmost gratitude of the chiefs and people of Dagbon to the Commission. He also appreciated the services of the Manager of Mole National Park, Mr. Ali Mahama, to the Gonja Kingdom and urged him to keep it up.
Others present at this event were the Manager for Corporate Affairs & Media Relations, Mrs. Joyce Ofori Kwafo; Mr. Farouk Umar Dubuire, Operations Manager, Wildlife Division and staff of the Mole National Park.
