The management of the Forest Services Division (FSD), has announced significant changes in its leadership. Mrs. Lydia Opoku has been appointed as the Ag. Executive Director, succeeding Dr. Hugh C.A. Brown, who has now assumed the highest-ranking position as the Acting Chief Executive.

In a brief but symbolic ceremony, Dr. Brown officially handed over the reins of leadership to Mrs. Opoku, a seasoned professional who has served the Division for an impressive 33 years. Her career has been characterised by dedication and a record of commendable achievements. Dr. Brown expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Division over the past three and a half years, acknowledging the support of his team and divine guidance throughout his tenure.

Mrs. Opoku brings with her a wealth of experience, having served previously as Regional Manager for the Western and Western North Regions ( then one Region) as well as for Central and Greater Accra Regions. She also held the position of Deputy Director of Operations. Her academic background includes a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science and Project Management from Ontario, Canada, and she is well-versed in Natural Resources Management.

Dr. Brown, shared words of wisdom with management, aiming to ease the challenges of transitioning leadership. In his farewell remarks, he humbly stated, “Forgive me if I have stepped on your toes in my line of duty.” He further noted that while he is formally stepping away from the Division, management should feel free to seek his guidance when necessary. “If FSD succeeds, the entire Commission succeeds,” he emphasised, underscoring the importance of continuity and operational stability.

The Management of FSD, represented by Mrs. Valarie Fumey-Nassah, Director of Operations, Plantations, commended Dr. Brown for his valuable contributions and extended best wishes to Mrs. Opoku as she assumes her new role.

Upon receiving the handover notes, Mrs. Opoku expressed her appreciation to the Acting Chief Executive and assured the management team of her full cooperation in driving efficiency and progress during her tenure. She also hinted at an upcoming innovative system aimed at combating illegal mining activities in the nations forest reserves.

The handover also outlined key responsibilities for the new Ag. Executive Director, with management highlighting other strategic objectives and components to be addressed, moving forward.
