The Timber Industry Development Division is proud to recognize the outstanding contributions of Mrs. Mary Adu Sarpong, the Area Manager of Techiman TIDD Office. Her dedication to sustainable timber practices has earned her the respect of her colleagues and the admiration of the industry.

Mrs. Mary Adu Sarpong’s initiative in securing a multi -purpose moisture meter and xylotrone, a portable wood identification device, through the Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM), Germany, will significantly enhance the Division’s ability to identify and manage timber resources. The Xylotrone in particular, is a game changer; it makes it easy for the rapid and accurate identification of timber species, ensuring responsible sourcing and forest conservation.

In 2020,Mrs. Adu Sarpong secured essential IT equipment for the Kumasi Area Office, through the Center for International Migration and Development (CIM) Workplace Equipment Support Initiative.She collaborated with Deutsch Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the International Placement Services (ZAV) of the German Federal Employment Agency to make this happen. The specialized equipment, including the Xylotrone and moixture meter, was manufactured and finally shipped to Ghana in late 2024.

The Ag. Executive Director of TIDD, Dr. Richard Gyimah, who was presented with these tools at the Performance Review meeting at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi, commended Mrs. Adu Sarpong for securing the new multi-purpose moixture meter and xylotrone. Dr. Gyimah further stated that the equipment will provide unparalleled accuracy and efficiency in grading and inspecting timber, ensuring the highest quality standards for our exports. These tools represent a significant advancement in timber technology and a testament to the dedication and expertise of the TIDD team. He was particularly impressed with the efficiency and accuracy of the new devices, which he also presented to the Grading and Inspection Manager, Mr.Ophelious Lambog. He charged him to ensure the tools are put into good use and maintained.
