Miss Earth Ghana, Miss. Priscilla Asante, together with beauty Queens from Kenya, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, England, Romania, and Namibia, have called on the Chief Executive (CE) of Forestry Commission (FC), Mr. John Allotey, to inform him about their project, “Beautify Accra” and their intention to plant 100,000 trees along the streets and walkways of Accra, to beautify the environment.
Miss Earth Ghana, used the platform to introduce the Eco Earth Foundation to the CE and inform him that, the Foundation, which focuses on educating young people on environmental issues, also intends to embark on school tours and initiate Eco-clubs in the schools, to inculcate the habit of planting trees in the youth.
Mr. Allotey applauded them for targeting the youth in their campaigns, informing them that, in all projects that FC undertakes, the youth is fully involved. However, with the availability of technology, they can do more and reach more people.
“When you are a queen, you have a voice and a platform to propagate projects, so use your beauty and brains to influence people to protect the environment”, he advised.
The CE used the platform to inform them about some projects the FC has undertaken to preserve the forests and its water bodies, emphasizing the Green Ghana Day (GGD) Project, and the “One Student, One Tree” campaign, which he said was part of the activities to commemorate the GGD 2024.
According to Mr. Allotey, the task ahead cannot be done by one person, so having them to add their voices to what should be done collectively is admired and supported greatly.
He encouraged the beauty queens to serve as role models, dedicated to upholding the advocacy to preserve and restore the environment.
Miss Earth Namibia, Miss Martha Kautanevali, said that coming from a country with dry vegetative cover, she has learned a lot from the CE and will endeavor to share with her country some of the projects FC, and Ghana as a whole had embarked on to protect the environment.
Miss Earth England, Jordan – Louise Smith, expressed her appreciation to the CE, for taking time off his busy schedule to meet them. According to her, it was a huge honor and privilege to sit with someone of his caliber to discuss such matters. She thanked the Chief Executive for listening.
Mr. Allotey entreated them to take time and enjoy the beautiful landscapes the country has to offer and visit some tourist sites under the Commission’s jurisdiction.
