The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources held a press briefing at the Ministry of Information to present activities undertaken by the 11 agencies under the Ministry and address some issues from the media.
In attendance were Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources; Hon. Benito Owusu Bio, Deputy Sector Minister; Hon. Mireku Duker, Deputy Sector Minister; Mr John Allotey, Chief Executive of Forestry Commission (FC); Hon. Martha Kwayie- Manu, Deputy Chief Executive and some selected staff of FC.
Speaking on the highlights of the forestry sector in the year of review, he mentioned the Green Ghana Project; launch of Ecotourism Handbook; digitalization of services, the establishment of the Forest Industry Association; REDD+ Programme, among others. The briefing also highlighted a launch for the National Planning Committee of the “Green Street Project” on 25th July, 2022, which intends to plant trees in the median and avenues of some selected regional capitals. He mentioned that a loan of USD 7 million has been secured to support private plantations across the country.
In the Minister’s closing remarks, he admonished Ghanaians to nurture trees planted during Green Ghana Day 2022.
