The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has held a Press Briefing at the Ministry of Information , to present activities undertaken by its agencies, focusing on Mining, Forestry and Land.
Speaking on the highlights of the Forestry sector in the year 2022 ,and also the first two months of 2023, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, spoke on the Green Ghana Project, Green Street Project, forest protection, activities of the Rapid Response Unit, ban on mining and mineral prospecting in forest reserves as well as ban on Rosewood export.
The Minister also touched on the Forest Investment Program,Wildlife Bill and visitation of ecotourism sites , and Ghana Cocoa Forest REDD+ programme.
Hon. Abu Jinapor admonished and encouraged citizens to support the Green Ghana Project in 2023, and nurture the seedlings planted in previous years.
He assured the country that the Ministry will not relent on its effort to ensure that the country’s forests are reclaimed and proper planting mechanisms are undertaken to not only beautify our environs but also fight climate change.
He thanked the Minister of Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah , for giving the MLNR the platform to update the people of Ghana on its achievements, which he said will bring the much needed development to the people.
The briefing also addressed questions from the media.
In attendance were Hon. Benito Owusu Bio, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Lands and Forestry ; Mr. John Allotey, Chief Executive of Forestry Commission (FC); Mr. Nyadia Sulemana Nelson, Deputy Chief Executive of Forestry Commission and some staff of FC.
