The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor MP, has commissioned a 13 office building, for the Eastern Regional Forest Services Division (FSD) office.
The Minister expressed his delight at performing the assignment of commissioning the new office, and commended the Forestry Commission Board Chairman, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, and the Chief Executive of Forestry Commission, Mr. John Allotey, for this wonderful feat they have chalked in ensuring the realisation of the office building.
“We hope that this office will be able to contend with the challenges faced by the Region, in relation to illegal logging, illegal mining, and everything that threatens the safety of the forests,“ he added.
The Minister applauded the staff of FC for the good work they do amidst the dangers they face in exhibiting their work. He encouraged them to work and execute their duties without fear or favour, as they have the full support of Government in the discharge of their duties.
He added that the new office will aid them in the protection of the 48 forest reserves in the region.
The Chairman for the occasion, who is also the Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, and FC Board Chairman, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, said it has been the focus of the government to protect our forests. For this reason, the new office was built to help the Region achieve their mandate of protecting the forest.
The Chief Executive of Forestry Commission (FC), Mr. John Allotey, in his address, said the office facility sits on a 2 acre land and has 13 offices, one conference room, a kitchen, reception, and water storage facility.
He added that the Eastern Regional Office will manage seven (7) district offices – Kyebi, Oda, Somanya, Kade, Mpraeso, Begro, and Donkor-krom.
The Chief Executive used the opportunity to call on everyone to join hands on Green Ghana Day, which is scheduled for 9th June, 2023, to plant 10 million tree seedlings.
The Manager for Eastern Region, Mr. Noble Eshun , could not hide his excitement about the commissioning of the new facility. He thanked the Minister, the Chief Executives, Members of the Board, the Executive Management Team (EMT), staff of FC and all those who made time to attend the program.
He also assured the Minister and the Chief Executive that he and his team will ensure they work hard to achieve the mandate of protecting and preserving the forest.
Prior to the commissioning, the team led by the Minister, paid a courtesy visit to the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, to officially inform him about the commissioning of the new FSD Regional Office.
As tradition demands, the team, together with the Eastern Regional Minister paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of New Juabeng Traditional Area, Dasebre Kwaku Boateng II, to inform him about the new building, and to solicit the support of the traditional council before, during and after the 2023 edition of Green Ghana Day.
