A delegation from the Forestry Commission (FC) has paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, to thank him for his support for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Green Ghana Day (GGD) exercises, and seek his blessings, advice and support for this year’s Green Ghana Day.
The Chief Executive of the FC, Mr. John Allotey, who led the delegation said every year, the FC visits His Eminence to inform him about GGD, and solicit for his support. “We are here to inform him to use his influence to solicit support for this year’s GGD, and use his voice as he has always done”, he explained
Mr. Allotey also informed him that, this year’s GGD will be held on Friday, 7 June, and ten (10) million tree seedlings more will be planted. He added that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and its agencies, particularly the Forestry Commission, is making seedlings available free of charge to everyone in Ghana to plant.
The National Chief Imam expressed his appreciation to the delegation for always making it a point to include him in this all important exercise. He said GGD is a duty on all Ghanaians and everyone living in Ghana, and advised that we overlook our party affiliations, religious backgrounds and our differences, and come together and plant on the day. “Everyone must see this as a national assignment and we must do this together devoid of our backgrounds and let peace prevail,” he added.
He offered prayers for the Chief Executive and his delegation, and asked Allah to bestow his blessings upon the team, our forests and the country in general.
The spokesperson for the Chief Imam, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, assured the team that on 7th June 2024, His Eminence will join in the planting as he has always done. He used the opportunity to call on Ghanaians to see the importance of the Green Ghana initiative and encouraged all and sundry to participate in the tree planting excercise, for the benefit of the country.
