A delegation from the Forestry Commission (FC) paid a courtesy call on the Church of Pentecost to appreciate them for their efforts during last year’s Green Ghana Day (GGD) activities and also solicit for their support for this year’s GGD.
The Chief Executive of FC, Mr. John Allotey, who led the delegation said this year’s GGD was launched by Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the revered Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, and the target for this year is to plant 10 million tree seedlings on 7th June 2024.He hoped that the target for this year will be exceeded. He also mentioned that there will be various pick-up points for the seedlings which are absolutely free of charge.

The General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi mentioned that the Church of Pentecost had so far planted 1.6 million seedlings with an 87% survival rate, to support the GGD project since its inception in 2021.The Church pledged to plant 1 million seedlings across the country this year.
‘’ Our God is interested in the environment, and as a church that takes inspiration from the Bible, it is important to take good care of the environment’’, he said.
Apostle Obuobi then called on all religious bodies, civil society organisations, and other institutions to come on board to support this worthy course.
Apostle Samuel Gakpetor, National Coordinator for Environmental Care Campaign of the Church of Pentecost presented the Church’s plan for the Green Ghana Day. In his presentation, he mentioned that all the members across the nation will be brought on board to participate in the tree planting exercise. Apostle Gakpetor also said they wanted to focus on the Northern part of Ghana and as such, Area Heads in the North have identified about 262 acres of land that they want to plant but if there are other reserves that FC wants them to plant in, they are willing to mobilise their people to plant.
The Technical Director for Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), Mr. Joseph Osiakwan; Director, Internal Audit, Mr. Elisha Asiedu Amponsah; Corporate Affairs and Media Relations Unit (CAMRU) Manager, Mrs. Joyce Ofori Kwafo, the PR team and FC press corps, accompanied the Chief Executive on this mission.
